As far back as 1994 I started tinkering with music software to try and produce tunes. With no knowledge whatsoever I created some crude re-edits and collages using the Windows 95 sound recorder, and also some short original pieces in a shareware tracking program.
The first piece of software I used which really enabled me to get creative was Mixman Studio, and using that I put together quite a few sample based tunes, mostly bigbeat and breakbeat. Now, with a more finely tuned ear, some of these first tunes sound a bit rough, but at that time already I was keen to produce better sounding tracks. I made a few tracks on various other programs like Dance EJay etc but the first sequencer I took to and stuck to was Acid Music. I'm still using it now, albeit a newer version, but it was the discovery of a whole community of mashup artists which I found through Get Your Bootleg On which really spurned me on creatively. I had already started toying with megamixes and bootlegs, and I learnt a lot from reading the pages of GYBO and listening to the mashups already out there. I aim to sink my teeth into Ableton Live, Reason and other software and really be able to produce the sounds I want to achieve. In the meantime I hope you enjoy my mashups, remixes and original work available here. I also DJ under the name Khyzer Zuke, and run a mashup-themed night Banged Out! in my home town.
